7-Day Eastern Caribbean Cruise from Miami

There is also lots of fun artwork and features around the ship that add to the “fun” feeling. In other words, while some cruise lines try to go toward more high-end (such as Norwegian Cruise Line), Carnival has modernized the design, but not gone away from its roots. But what you quickly realize — even at first — is that there is a lot onboard. Walking through the ship is seemingly a never-ending lineup of bars, restaurants, shops, and venues.

Day 1: Miami

Unlike their fleetmates, Carnival Celebration and Mardi Gras both skip the soaring, multi-deck-high central atrium and replace it with a three-deck-high ocean-facing atrium along the ship's starboard (right-hand) side. The area was revamped and renamed Celebration Central area on this ship, decorated with color-changing lights designed to look like confetti. Guest services and shore excursions have been moved out of this central area to a more out-of-the-way spot on Deck 8 aft. The water park has three different slides to suit all tastes plus a splash park, and the mini-golf course is a fun time and actually tricky.

But Carnival’s new generation of ship, powered by cleaner-burning Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) technology, is also a ship of the future – and designers have thrown everything but the kitchen sink into its creation. This includes the revolutionary new atrium-theater concept known as Center Stage, which hosts game shows and trivia along with high-tech musical production spectaculars by night, complete with banks of LED screens, acrobatics, strobe lights and even smoke effects. Launched in 2022, Carnival Celebration is the second in a line of next-generation, Liquefied Natural Gas-powered cruise ships from Carnival Cruise Line that began with the launch of Mardi Gras in 2021 and continued with Carnival Jubilee in late 2023. These comfy rooms with a view let you take in the scenery as you sail toward your beautiful destinations. But the views aren’t all that matters here — Ocean View staterooms on Carnival Celebration® are a little bit bigger than Interior rooms and most feature a supremely loungeable couch for those times when neither lying nor standing will do.

Shipboard dining options - Food and Drinks

Akin to the "neighborhoods" concept pioneered by Royal Caribbean's Oasis class ships, Carnival's ship zones act as immersive themed areas where guests can indulge in specific activities, dining venues, bars and lounges, and entertainment options. Carnival Celebration's main dining rooms feature select items from the onboard steakhouse, available for an additional fee. Traditionally, shipboard dining includes a complimentary Lido Buffet Restaurant. A special venue is the New England-inspired casual eatery Seafood Shack. It offers both indoor and outdoor seating and the menu includes steamed lobster, lobster rolls, fried shrimp, fried clams, crab cakes, and other seafood surprises. Seafood Shack serves lunch and dinner and is priced a la carte starting at $4.

New with the Excel class is Shaquille O'Neal's Big Chicken venue serving variations on the fried-chicken-and-biscuit theme from breakfast through the late afternoon. Carnival's pizza is some of the best in the biz, and the customizable tacos and burritos at BlueIguana offer something for everyone. I've seen ships from other lines where the top-deck attractions take up so much space, the pools and lounging space get short shrift.

Then they sometimes leave the stage behind, like in The Most Magnificent Circus and We Are One where they soar above the audience. Or Color My World, a show where they break into actual live-graffiti painting, right on stage. Carnival Celebration plays host to a lineup of all-new shows, plus fan-favorites Celestial Strings, which reimagines rock and pop favorites as symphonic classical compositions, and Amor Cubano with the rhythmic sounds of today’s Latin hits.

Balcony staterooms are proof that while it’s great to be cruisey… on vacation, breeziness is a virtue too. And any time you’re in your well-appointed Balcony stateroom aboard Carnival Celebration®, you’re just steps away from the outdoors by way of your private open-air oasis. Designed for kicking back al fresco, you’re in for some amazing ocean views… views so stunning you’ll just have to feel ‘em to believe ‘em. Haute cuisine meets atmosphere at Fahrenheit 555™, a dining experience that stands toe-to-toe with some of the best steakhouses on land. Ours features your choice of steak cuts, lobster, lamb and more… and inside, there’s even a full bar that pours great pairings.

You’ll find a rotating selection of these vistas brilliantly displayed right on the innovative LED windows and ceiling, plus theme nights that match — including Abroad in Europe, Far East Voyage and Mexico Lindo — which each feature food, drink and entertainment to match. But every moment is a special occasion thanks to onboard spots that are proud to import their flavor from all over. We’re talking restaurants and bars like Latitudes™ with its old-school railway station vibe, The Golden Jubilee™ featuring a unique mix of great drinks and live music, plus Emeril’s Bistro 1397™, which is deliciously all over the map. And don’t miss your chance to sip a little cocktail magic at returning fan-favorite Alchemy Bar®. Even when you’re looking to the future, you still think about the past. So that’s why — if you were us — you might pay tribute to 50 years of Carnival fun and history by creating a space like The Golden Jubilee™!

Located on Deck 8 Aft, Summer Landing will feature Guy's Pig & Anchor Smokehouse Brewhouse (complete with a selection of craft beers brewed right onboard), whirlpools, a Watering Hole poolside bar and the Heroes Tribute Lounge that honors U.S. military personnel. The Center Stage theater in the middle of the ship is another good example. Since it’s not set up like a normal theater, there just weren’t a ton of spots to sit down and still see the stage.

Service has always been a hallmark of the Carnival Cruise experience; its gracious staff and officers routinely punched above their weight – and Carnival’s entry-level price-point – to provide service that was somehow consistently personable, friendly and welcoming. Carnival Celebration also boasts a much-expanded Bonsai Teppanyaki venue just next to Bonsai Sushi. This interactive hibachi “dinner-and-a-show” concept features talented chefs whipping up Japanese creations in front of patrons, with no small amount of flair or groan-inducing one-liners that are fun for the whole family.

Many menu items are developed by the basketball player himself, the rest are based on the celebrity's favorite food recipes. Celebrity chef Emeril Lagasse has a specialty restaurant (located in The Gateway/ Deck 6 portside). Lagasse is the chef and owner of 11 different restaurants, including 4 in New Orleans. He is a regular guest on Good Morning America (TV show) and has hosted 2000+ shows on Food Network (US pay-TV channel). Lagasse Restaurant offers New Orleans cuisine, including spicy creole specialties.

Carnival’s accessible price-point and high-quality entertainment also works in favor of multigenerational travel. It’s a cruise that almost everyone can afford, and cruising aboard Carnival Celebration with family and friends is a treat indeed. For some, it may very well be their first introduction to the world of cruise travel. Staterooms aboard Carnival Celebration are more modern in appearance than the line’s ships of the past, with a palette of light blues and sea foam greens mixed with crisp white linens and furnishings. We particularly liked the circular rim-lit mirrors and the accent lighting behind the beds, while recessed reading lights for all beds in each room are a nice and welcomed touch – as are the abundance of USB, USB-3 and regular North American-style electrical outlets.

A signature outdoor fun facility is the ropes course SkyCourse (length 600 ft / 183 m). SkyCourse is part of the SportSquare (sports complex) with an indoor hangout, mini-bowling, mini-golf course, The Clubhouse, Ping-Pong area with tables, jogging track, interactive sports gaming, arcade basketball. The Gateway's Deck 6 is home to Latitudes Bar, Emeril’s Bistro 1397 (by chef Emeril Lagasse), The Golden Jubilee (travel-themed bar lounge), Carnivale Restaurant, Carnival Kitchen, Conference Room. The Gateway has a large digital map showing the current location of all CCL ships in real-time. The boat has 18 decks, of which 15 are passenger-accessible and 11 with cabins.

The design offers additional protections for the little ones, as it is away from any bars, lounges and nightlife spaces. Carnival Cruise Line has managed to keep details of its newest upcoming ship mostly under wraps -- until now. Carnival Celebration, like Mardi Gras, takes the Carnival Fun Ship concept to the next level with a bigger ship and an updated layout that still hold true to the line's core values of dining variety, plentiful bars, entertainment for all interests and a focus on fun. Loyalists will find many of their favorite places and spaces and come to develop new beloved hangouts, while first-timers will be wowed by the nonstop options, livable cabins across all price points and the always-friendly and helpful crew members.

Carnival’s most popular cocktail watering hole, Alchemy Bar has been tucked into a narrow passageway on Deck 7 that’s constantly brimming with patrons coming from dinner or exiting the Limelight Lounge. Carnival's Excel-class ships offer more cabin types than ever before, with family cabins, Havana cabins with patio swings, and all kinds of suites. I stayed in a standard balcony cabin with my family of four and was impressed by how well designed the room was to accommodate four people in a small space. Located on top-deck (deck 19), Loft 19 is a new VIP leisure concept (secluded retreat for adults) designed as a premium resort complex. Here are offered full bar service, swimming pool, sunbathing area with cabanas, deckchairs and sun loungers available for rent. The cabanas are fully-stocked with beverages, chilled towels, plush bathrobes and provide dedicated concierge service with lunch delivery and fresh fruits.
